A former nightclub based in Scunthorpe has been put up for sale with an asking price of £625,000, and is being marketed by property consultants PPH Commercial.
The Britannia Bar and Nightclub, fondly known as just The Brit, opened its doors for the very last time to revellers on New Year’s Eve roughly three months ago, and operated as a commercial venue with an 800-person capacity.
A historic building, it first opened in 1907 as a pub and traditional ale house for Melbourne Ales. It was purchased in 2010 by current owner Scott Slingsby and converted into a nightclub then.
The Brit is now open for sale with an earmarked price of £625,000 through PPH Commercial or is also considered for lease with an annual rent of £45,000.
PPH Commercial’s chartered surveyor, Duncan Willey, said: “The Britannia is a highly-prominent landmark at the heart of Scunthorpe, and I’m sure many people will have fond memories of spending fun-filled nights there from when it opened as a bar and nightclub.
“It may have closed its doors for now, but I still believe it has a really exciting future ahead. We just need to find a passionate new owner who has vision and ambition for what is a truly lovely building.”
Plans for conversion were approved in January this year by the North Lincolnshire Council, with designs for offices, a shop, café and even hair and beauty salon considered for the space. The end result is pending on new ownership and their plans for redevelopment.
Willey commented: “Whatever the future holds in store, I’m sure the Britannia will once again play an important role at the heart of Scunthorpe’s high street.”
