Two of the hotels from the von Essen chain have been bought out of administration, it has been confirmed.
James Caan, a businessman known for his appearances on the BBC's Dragon's Den, bought the hotels through his private equity vehicle Hamilton Bradshaw.
The properties are both located in picturesque areas of the country: The first is Sharrow Bay hotel, near Ullswater in the Lake District, which went for £1.5 million, while the second is Ston Easton Park in Somerset, which was sold for £3 million.
Christie & Co. organised the sales, which bring to a close the sale of a total of 26 country house hotels sold by the auction house on behalf of von Essen's administrators Ernst & Young.
Martin Davis, director for Christie's in the north west, told Insider Media: “We're delighted to have sold these fine country house hotels to Hamilton Bradshaw, and to have concluded sales on the complete instruction.
"Sharrow Bay is an iconic country house hotel which occupies an outstanding location on the shore of Lake Ullswater. We've thoroughly enjoyed working with the administrators Ernst & Young on this process and wish all the new owners well with their new business acquisitions."
