The historic railway station building on Station Road, Penmaenmawr, North Wales has been put up for sale with a price tag of £75,000.
The 162-year-old building, which lies on the Crewe-to-Holyhead North Wales Coast Line, will be auctioned on Wednesday 12 October at Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in London.
Most recently occupied by a locksmith, the Grade II-listed stone building is currently vacant. Interested parties are likely to be interested in developing the freehold building, but will be faced with certain restrictions due to its listed status.
However, Mayor Viv Mooney confirmed that a new owner would be able to change its use subject to planning approval from Conwy Council.
Mayor Mooney told the North Wales Weekly, “It’s very good news for the town. I hope the next person brings it back to its former glory.
“It’s the first port of call for people when they come into Penmaenmawr. It’s a very nice building, but a bit of an eyesore,” Mayor Mooney added.
Users of the railway line have been reassured that the sale of the building will not affect the train services, which are scheduled to continue as normal.
Graham Johnston, associate director of auctions at Lambert Hampton Smith auctioneers, the company that will be auctioning off the railway building, told the newspaper, “It does need some tender care.” He added that the building boasted beautiful coastal and sea views.
