Global chain and lifting products manufacturer William Hackett has bought Forge Lifting Gear, a specialist in the bespoke making of bolts, shackles and forgings.
With sites in Alnick, Northumberland and Cradley Heath, William Hackett has been operating for more than 130 years, providing lifting, rigging and chain solutions including products specifically designed for marine and offshore applications.
Indeed, Cradley Heath, – the home of UK chain making – is where it all began. In 1892, it started manufacturing chain products for the agricultural and marine sectors and have emerged to become a global leader in the manufacture of chain harrows.
Forge, based in Halesowen, creates custom equipment and volume products for sectors including energy, construction, mining, agriculture, and utilities. It adds bespoke service to the manufacturer, with expertise in bending, milling and hot forging, as well as welding. It can also offer surface treatments such as galvanising, sherardising, zinc plating and powder coating. Its clients include those in the oil and gas, military, power stations and construction sectors.
The deal follows the acquisition of B&S Chains, a specialist in playground equipment. Both businesses have relocated to William Hackett’s Cradley Heath facility.
Ian Kelly, operations director of William Hackett Chain Products said: “Forge Lifting Gear is a great addition to our group. It complements our existing operations, bringing us capabilities that truly enhance our customer offering. We have worked closely with Forge Lifting Gear for over 20 years and built up a great relationship. They were located close to our William Hackett Chain Products facility in Cradley Heath, making them a natural fit with our existing business and a great acquisition to support our growth strategy.
He added that its customers are often up against tight deadlines, requiring non-standard products very quickly.
“We can now provide them with a full end-to-end solution, from assisting during the design process to providing a one-off product or small batch run,” he said.
