A historic hotel located in Haltwhistle, Northumberland has been put up for sale after its current owners decided to retire.
The Centre of Britain Hotel and Restaurant, named as such because of its claim to be the centre of the British Isles, has part of its premise set in a 15th century border reivers’ pele tower, and features 12 bedrooms equipped with ensuite bathrooms and three dining rooms with room for 80 people.
Christie & Co are organising the sale of the property and business, whilst owners David Taylor and Grethe Kirkebjerg step down since its opening in 1997.
Director of Christie & Co., Mark Worley, said: “We are very pleased to offer this wonderful hotel to the market. It’s the kind of place that you could spend hours just walking around looking at the historical features.
"It makes a lot of sense as a business purchase as it provides good profits and healthy advance bookings. We feel it would ideally suit an owner operator, perhaps a couple or family, or simply someone who would like to run a leisure-based hotel in a lovely part of the world."
Worley, who is handling the sale of the business, stated that he is seeking offers of at least £895,000 for the freehold interest of the hotel and restaurant.
The Centre of Britain has previously served a number of purposes, including a manor house, excise office, post office, pub and café.
The owners commented: “It will be sad for us to leave the business, but we hope we can find new owners who can take it forward.
“The Centre of Britain is a powerful brand and I hope a future owner will be able to take full advantage of it.”
