Britain's biggest producer of trout and one of Scotland's largest seafood companies has sold its frozen scampi business.
Dawnfresh Seafoods has sold the entire frozen scampi division of its business to Whitby Seafood Ltd, a competitor based in England.
Reports from the Scottish Herald confirmed that the sale has taken place, although no details of the value of the division sale have been revealed.
Dawnfresh's billionaire owner Alastair Salveson told the paper: “I would like to thank all of our longstanding customers and suppliers for their support over many years and I wish the Whittle family and their team at Whitby continuing success in the future.”
His business showed a turnover of over £54 million last year, although the previous financial year saw an operating loss of £3.86 million.
The company operates from Uddington out of a state of the art seafood factory, which it moved into in 1991 as business expanded. The business initially focused almost exclusively on scampi back in the 1980s but went on to expand into new fish markets including whiting and herring, before shifting its focus to trout.
