Manchester-based testing, inspection, certification and compliance company BES Group has completed its first acquisition of 2024. The group has acquired statutory inspection firm Rak Inspection Services in a move that enhances its inspection and consultancy services.
BES Group began its acquisitive growth strategy in 2019, several years after carving out from RSA Insurance and becoming an independent company, backed by private equity firm Inflexion.
Rak Inspection services is BES Group’s ninth acquisition in the past 20 months and comes after it completed five acquisitions in 2023. Last year, the group acquired Alliance, Rotech, ESIS, Inspire Structures and Inspired Access Solutions.
Rak specialises in providing inspection services that help companies to ensure compliance with statutory legislation, including Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015 (COMAH), Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) regulations.
The North East-based company has a strong presence in sectors including petrochemical, utilities, industrial gases and chemical, and counts notable organisations such as Esso, BP, National Grid and Shell among its customers. It has a team of more than 40 staff, including highly-skilled and experienced engineer surveyors.
John Campbell, BES Group Chief Executive Officer, commented: “Rak Inspection Services is another fantastic addition to our company. Growth by acquisition is important to us at BES Group and we are focused on welcoming businesses that support our customers’ needs with industry leading teams and solutions. We are confident we have done just that with Rak.”
After kicking off its acquisitive activity for the year, Campbell said that BES Group “have a busy agenda on this front over the coming months as we continue to focus on providing our customers with the very best end to end risk management solutions”.
RAK Inspection Services Managing Director Phil Jackson said the deal would enable the company to “take the next step in our growth journey.” He added: “As part of BES Group, we know we will be able to build on everything we have achieved so far, helping keep even more businesses safe and legally compliant with our specialist services."
