An award-winning café located in the Kirkby Lonsdale in the district of Cumbria, and set to feature in a new film starring Robert Downey Jr and Emma Thompson, has been put up on the market for sale by its current owners.
The Crossing Point Café has an asking price of £165,000 for the lease, along with a weekly rent of £413.
Owned by John and Renata Strange, the café has numerous accolades to its name including the 2016 Cafélife Gold Award, being a finalist in the Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards in both 2016 and 2017, and even appears in Waitrose’s Good Food Guide for 2018.
Opened in 2014 when the Stranges noticed a gap in the Kirkby Lonsdale market and found a site in which to fill the gap, the couple cited the desire to pursue other ventures as the reason for selling the establishment.
John Strange, who previously worked as a general manager at a Michelin-star restaurant in Cartmel, said: “At the time the café offering in Kirkby Lonsdale was mostly very traditional, so we saw there was definitely a market for a more modern venue and approach, and we decided to go with it.
“After many years working very long hours in the hospitality business we wanted to do our own thing in a way that would provide us with a good living while giving us our lives back and allowing us to take some nice holidays, and that’s just what we’ve been able to do.”
The café is equipped with a full kitchen and boasts a wine, cigar and a loose-leaf tea shop to seat a total of 36 guests. It experienced a turnover of more than £100,000 with a gross profit of £60,000 in the most recent financial year.
Listings manager Nikki Jones said: “A new owner could either come in and carry on as [the previous owners] have done, making a very comfortable living with a really nice business, or expand into evening opening and make the most of the Crossing Point Café’s undoubted potential.”
