Pearlwild Ltd, the business that operates Liverpool's Yellow Duckmarine attraction, has been placed in administration. Milner Boardman have been appointed to handle the matter.
The news comes just a week after one of the company's boats sank in the Albert Dock. None of the 31 people on board were seriously injured, but it was the second sinking involving one of the crafts in three months and the business has been troubled by investigations into the safety of its boats.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is currently investigating matters and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency has already withdrawn its certification on all of the company's four vessels.
Pearlwild itself has claimed that the latest incident was the result of debris in the water which lead to “severe damage to the hull” of the boat.
Joe Anderson, Liverpool Mayor, has stated that the fleet should “not be allowed back in the water” following numerous incidents.
The fleet of boats used by Yellow Duckmarines are DUKW vehicles, known as Ducks. They were used during the D-Day landings in the Second World War where they carried supplies and men ashore in areas where no port facilities existed. All four of the boats are almost 70-years-old and following their time in military service have collectively carried almost two million passengers around the Albert Dock since the tourist attraction was launched almost 13 years ago.
