Dudley-based R Bennett & Co has entered administration, it has been revealed this past week.
The family-run building contractor business specialises in new builds, renovation and maintenance work across the UK. Specifically it has developed a niche market for performing alterations and renovation works on pubs.
The company, which was started in 1945 by carpenter Bob Bennett, has appointed Harrisons Business Recovery and Insolvency as administrators. However, no comment has been provided yet from Harrison or R Bennett & Co to state whether or not they were seeking a buyer for the West Midlands business.
Now passed down to a fourth generation of the Bennett family, R Bennett & Co names leading companies in the UK pub market as clients, including Mitchells & Butlers, Marstons, Enterprise Inns, Greene King, Fuller Smith & Turner and Young’s. The company purportedly has a turnover of around £7 million and employs more than 50 staff.
The company has done refurbishment work on landmark buildings in Priory Street, Dudley, for the borough council in recent years, the Express & Star reported. Its website also states that it undertakes new build work up to a value of £2 million.
