Galvanised steel tank maker Galglass entered administration on Thursday last week (19 June), resulting in 134 job losses.
Administrators Keith Marshall and David Whitehouse from Duff and Phelps have come in to manage the company’s affairs.
Established in 1979, the business - which was a major employer in the area of Wombwell, South Yorkshire - designs, makes and installs steel and concrete storage tanks and roof structures. Working internationally as well as across the UK, it has contributed to projects in Australia, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Sweden and Switzerland.
The administrators said the business and assets couldn’t be sold as a going concern, so they are working with the remaining 11 skeleton staff to identify and realise the assets belonging to the company.
Some of the directors had exited the business in recent months, including the managing director Nick Stringer.
The Barnsley Chronicle reported Councillor Margaret Morgan’s reaction to the news: “It was only a few months ago they bought two adjacent houses as they needed extra office space, which to me implied it was a growing firm.
“I’m very sad to hear about this, as we need as many jobs as we can possibly have.”
