Rowland’s Clothing, the Trowbridge-based seller of clothing for women aged over 55, has entered administration.
Insolvency firm KCBS has been clearing out the head office this week, and while it confirmed that it is acting as Rowland’s Clothing’s administrator no-one was available for comment, the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald reported.
At its Bath store, an employee was unable to say if it was still open for business. She said: “I am not able to say anything at all.” The company website has been taken offline.
Rosemex Trading, a subsidiary of New World Private Equity, bought the business out of administration in February 2012. Eight members of staff lost their jobs in the process, with the majority of positions retained.
At its peak the business had seven outlets across the South West region with locations including Salisbury, Farnham, Lymington and Bradford-on-Avon, and had 60 employees. It ran mail order and internet-based operations.
The Rowland family founded the business about 30 years ago from a shop in Bath, and later expanded to move its head office and warehouse to Southwick.
At the time of its previous stint in administration, Rowland’s chairman Stewart Cantley said the retailer had shrugged off its debts and had a cash boost of £2 million, to be invested into its own-brand developments for the 55-plus market.
Director David Selby said at the time: “We are very much appealing to the market of women who are over 55, as we don’t feel there is enough out there for them.
“We have been through difficult times and times are still uncertain, but we think we can grow in this market.”
