A shopping outlet in the Lake District has entered administration just two-and-a-half years after it first opened.
The K Village, located in Kendal, is owned by Kendal Riverside Ltd. The firm was forced to call in administrators on 28 December, it has been revealed.
The outlet opened up in July 2010 with grand plans to stimulate business in the area and create around 300 full-time and part-time jobs. The owners also suggested that K Village would attract more than 1.5 million visitors and up to 4,000 coaches a year, bringing much needed tourist income to the area.
Unfortunately, it failed to fill many of its business units after opening and the ambitions of Kendal Riverside were never realised.
A statement from the group said that it was “firmly business as usual” until a buyer a was found.
South Lakes MP Tim Farron added that a buyer is being sought for the outlet. He stated: “We need to try and find a buyer for the centre soon and make sure we attract more businesses that people want to visit.
“Many people tell me we need a major retailer like Primark or Nandos in there. I’d like to see if we could make that happen. If we could attract a business like that it would make a massive difference to the centre.”
