The collapse of Christmas decoration maker Fuzzwire into administration has left almost 190 staff and self-employed workers without a job in the run up to Christmas.
The Bradford-based business installed decorations and lights for about 150 British shopping centres, including Liverpool One, this year. Fuzzwire had been taken into administration after suffering a steep fall in its cash position.
The appointed administrator at FRP Advisory Andrew Sheridan said the contracts have been handed over to Austrian-owned business MK Illumination. The transition will ensure the decorations can be taken down in the New Year, and could even mean the creation of new jobs for MK Illumination, which already operates across Europe.
Mr Sheridan said: “The assignment of Fuzzwire’s Contracts should ensure that safeguarding and sound management of the Christmas decoration schemes that are in place and ensure there is a smooth operational framework to facilitate their seamless removal to timetable by MK Illumination in the New Year, critical for the shopping centre customers."
The local MP Kris Hopkins said he would get in touch with government departments to see what can be done to help those who lost their jobs.
