Prime Minister David Cameron announced plans to make the next ten years 'an entrepreneurial decade' and the Global Entrepreneurship Week gets that plan off to a solid start.
Running until 21 November, the annual event is aimed at inspiring prospective and existing business owners to grow their firms and, in doing so, help to boost the country's economic recovery.
More than 10 million people across 100 countries are taking part, with 36,000 events being held in the UK alone.
Cameron he hoped the week would encourage those who are 'dreaming about making it big to get out there and do it.'
The focus of this year's event is to encourage the entrepreneurs of the future and helping people with business ideas to overcome the hurdles of starting up. These budding business owners, added Cameron, are key to the future of the UK.
Tom Bewick, chief executive of Enterprise UK, the organisers of Global Entrepreneurship Week, said, “This year our call to action for entrepreneurs is that it’s time to make a job, not just take a job, and to play a role in helping to grow the economy and create more jobs.
“Delegates can learn the skills they need to develop their products and sell them not just here but also abroad. Some of the events are about information-sharing and inspiration, while others are very hands-on and practical,” he added.
