US medication provider Omnicell, Inc has completed its purchase of UK-based Surgichem Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bupa Care Homes plc, after gaining approval from the industry regulators.
Surgichem is to be merged with Omnicell’s existing UK business MTS Medication Technologies Limited in the coming months after the merger was agreed by the Competition and Markets Authority in Britain.
Based in Stockport Surgichem provides medication adherence packaging solutions to British care homes and domiciliary operations. It also supplies its monitored dosage systems to more than 3,200 independent pharmacies and larger pharmacy chains.
MTS Medication Technologies, bought by Omnicell in 2012, is the world’s leading supplier of medication adherence packaging solutions itself.
Both businesses are to continue trading as normal in the short term, with no major changes, MTS Ltd managing director Paul O’Hanlon confirmed.
