York Mailing has purchased its rival The Lettershop Group (TLG), after receiving a £10 million investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF) in return for a small stake last month.
Yorkshire law firm Lupton Fawcett, Grant Thornton and DC Advisory advised on the deal.
Elvington-based York Mailing is the biggest supplier of printed items including flyers, media inserts and catalogues to British retailers such as Marks & Spencers, Tesco, Lidl and Boden. Founded in 1999, it comprises two web offset businesses – York Mailing and Pindar Scarborough.
TLG specialises in direct mailing for the financial services sector and has more recently moved into retail, providing a range of marketing services to its customers including Tesco, Sky and Marks & Spencer.
Together the businesses will have a 500-strong workforce across three sites and will offer a joint digital and web offset platform, to offer solutions for clients’ numerous needs, and with an advantage over its competitors. The merged entity’s turnover will reach almost £100 million.
Chris Ingram, CEO of York Mailing, told the Business Desk: “We have long admired TLG as a business given its outstanding client base and hybrid digital and web offset printing capabilities. It is a natural fit within the York Mailing business and we look forward to being able to offer customers an enhanced range of promotional printing services.”
TLG owner John Hornby added: “I firmly believe that being part of the UK’s most dynamic print provider offers a real opportunity for TLG to extend their leading technology to a broader customer base.”
