Two law firms are in discussions about a merger, which would create the second biggest law firm in the Midlands.
Shakespeares and Harvey Ingram have their heads bent together in discussions over the plans with the intention to commence the merger in early August this year.
Shakespeares has a few merged businesses under its belt already and if the Harvey Ingram merger goes ahead it will be its fifth within five years. A successful deal would lead to a consolidated workforce of 815, with annual revenues of £50 million operating from the East and West Midlands.
Established in 1767, Harvey Ingram specialises in commercial law and also has a personal injury claims service, working from offices in Leicester, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Newport Pagnell and Bedford. The firm expanded outwards from its home in Leicestershire to the wider Midlands after its merger with Borneos in January 2011.
The deal would enable the firm to meet its growth target and ahead of its schedule, Hamish Munro Shakespeares’ commercial director said.
“The firm set itself the clear ambition to be a £50 million law firm by the end of 2014,” he told Birmingham Post.
“This merger makes us achieve that end and in our view our strength in depth across all the relevant legal services required by corporates, private clients and public sector organisations will make us compelling as an option to London firms and other large firms in the Midlands.”
