The Myers Group, a building products provider in Yorkshire, has snapped up Bulk Builders Merchants as part of its quest to expand.
The family-owned Myers Group operates several complementary businesses ranging from quarrying and concrete production to skip hire and builders merchants. With sales of £40 million, it has a 350-strong workforce across Yorkshire and is presently run by fourth generation members of the family - James and Katie Berry.
The group operates the Readymix brand, which was set up in 1959 and now operates four factories in the region.
Bulk Builders Merchants, also based in Yorkshire, supplies building and landscaping materials, to include gravel, bricks, drainage, artificial grass and fencing. The business was founded with the name Bulk Haulage Leeds Ltd in 1982 by former transport manager David Gale and his wife Marilyn, before undergoing a name change in 2007.
BBM is the biggest independent stockist of Marshalls and Plasmor in the local area, according to its website.
Commenting on the deal, Mr Berry, the Myers Group’s managing director, said: “Bulk Builders Merchants has an excellent reputation and strong trading base. It is also a family owned business and shares our focus on providing great service. This acquisition marks the start of a period of expansion across the group that will see us invest in our brands and seek good value acquisitions.”
