Engineering and environmental consultancy Hilson Moran has been bought in an £5 million management buy-out deal, led by managing director Chris Plummer and backed by Albion Ventures.
Hilson Moran provides consultancy for building services, facilities management and sustainability, among other services. It has a reputation as a leader in engineering consultancy for residential, commercial office, data centre, retail and hotel developments, on projects that have included The Gherkin, the Olympic village at Stratford and Wembley Arena. Other prestigious projects include 20 Fenchurch Street, known as the 'Walkie Talkie’.
The firm’s 200-strong workforce is based at sites in London, Manchester, Farnborough, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. It achieved a 20 per cent growth in revenues in 2011.
Founded in 1977, the firm was privately owned until it was bought by Altran UK, the UK subsidiary of French company Altran Technologies, in 2002.
Mr Plummer believes returning to private ownership will benefit the business. “Returning to private ownership will enable us to continue to develop the business in the direction that we choose,” he told the Construction Index.
“Hilson Moran is a 35-year old business with a strong identity and successful track record. Renewed independence gives us the agility and autonomy to respond quickly to a changing market and clients’ evolving needs.”
