The company that owns the restaurant chain Nando's is considering the sale of another one of its chains, Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK).
According to reports from Sky News, the South African firm Capricorn Ventures has held meetings with advisers to discuss options for GBK, with a possible sale of the chain of burger restaurants being touted.
GBK, which now has more than 60 sites across the UK, has been at the forefront of a trend in the food industry as customers are wanting more premium casual dining options. The upmarket fast food eateries have forced traditional operators such as McDonald's to expand their menu to include more expensive, premium items.
Acquired from Clapham House in 2010, the burger chain has grown in sales and profits. Now the Nando's owner could look to capitalise on the appetite of UK diners by selling GBK on.
It comes after a number of other restaurants and chains have changed hands in business sales. Earlier this year, Cote, the French bistro chain, was taken over by BC Partners, a buyout firm, at a "lofty valuation which surprised many City observers", Sky News notes.
Many firms are also in the process of bidding for upmarket steak restaurant chain Gaucho. Prezzo, Ed's Easy Diner and Yo! Sushi have also either been sold or begun the process of a sale this year.
