Global wine company Accolade Wines has announced that it has acquired Lambrini, the UK's leading brand of Perry.
Accolade, the firm behind well-known brands such as Hardys and Echo Falls, revealed that it had expanded its portfolio by purchasing the Lambrini brand from Halewood Artisanal Spirits.
First launched almost three decades ago, Lambrini is a well-known brand of Perry, or pear cider, that has a following across Britain.
Commenting on the acquisition, Accolade Wines chief executive Robert Foye stated that the strong heritage of the brand, along with its popularity across the UK, will ensure Lambrini plays a large role in the firm's "broader strategic growth plans" across the UK and Europe.
Accolade Wines managing director, Europe, Caroline Thompson-Hill added: "We believe this acquisition is a great thing for the industry and the consumer as we continue to invest in our partnerships, innovate the category, and deliver products that excite the consumer."
Halewood UK managing director John Bradbury also commented on the sale, stating that it marked the final stage in the company's plans to begin focusing on core artisanal spirits such as Whitley Neill Gin and JJ Whitley Vodka.
He said: "We believe Lambrini is in capable hands with Accolade Wines, which has a track record of building global brands. We will work closely with Accolade Wines and our customers through the period of transition to ensure continued delivery of the Lambrini brand to market."
The acquisition marks Accolade Wines' third acquisition of the year, following the company's purchase of Katnook Estate and Rolf Binder Wines, both of which became part of the firm's Global Vintage Release programme.
