The UK's largest remaining independent computer maker, MESH Computers, has entered administration - but has almost immediately seen its brand and assets sold on to another computer company.
No sooner had administrators from MacIntyre Hudson been appointed to handle the process, than components distributor PC Peripherals snapped up the 25-year-old brand, with the intention of continuing the hardware support service for existing MESH customers.
Administrator Adrian Dante, said, "The deal was reliant on a quick turnaround so we had to work hard to find the right buyer in a short space of time - whilst maximising the return for creditors."
He said that the company had been struck hard not only by the recession, but also by the rise in demand for tablet devices like iPads over MESH's traditional fare of laptops and PCs. Dante explained that the shifting habits had caused an overhaul of their entire supply chain, from manufacture through to distribution and retail.
MESH Computers was founded in 1986, and has around 150 employees, working from a base in Staples Corner in London. Until its administration, it was owned entirely by long-term partner Max Sherafati who, since 2005 has steadily bought out a former business partner, Peter Ramiz, and shares owned by HBOS.
