Care home business opportunities have emerged in Wirral, after the local authority announced that they are to put four of their properties up for sale.
Wirral Borough Council has revealed plans to sell off the four properties that make up part of their care services portfolio. It is proposed that the 20-bed Mapleholme property, on Beckwith Street, Birkenhead; the 38-bed Poulton House, on Winterhey Road, Wallasey; and the four-bed residential home at Manor Road, Wallasey, all be put up for sale at auction.
The report also proposes that the Meadowcroft home, in Bromborough, be sold to Age Concern Wirral. The plans will have to be voted on by the council's cabinet when it assembles for its next meeting on Thursday.
The report recommends that, "the assets be declared surplus and, if not required by partner organisations, sold by auction".
The cabinet's representative for corporate resources, Councillor Adrian Jones said that the buildings, which were closed down by the council's previous administration in March, were no longer needed by the local authority and selling them on the private market was the best option.
"Until the buildings are sold, or transferred, the council remains liable for all ongoing costs so it is important that we move forward with this process," he explained, adding that Age Concern Wirral had already submitted new plans for services at the Meadowcroft home.
This outstanding business is being sold together with its exceptional freehold commercial premises. Also included in the selling price is an adjacent 3 bedroom semi-detached residential property that is currently let on an AST.
