Manchester United could be considering buying Segro-owned properties on the Trafford Park industrial estate close to the football ground, according to media reports.
As part of its new strategy, Segro has put £1.6 billion worth of assets up for sale, including its Trafford Park properties. According to a report in the Telegraph, Manchester United may be interested in buying a number of the dozen properties which Segro owns on Trafford Park.
The article states that sources close to the Premier League football club have said that no specific plans have been outlined for how the land could be used should the deal go ahead. In October 2011, Manchester United paid Segro £8 million for three Trafford Park sites.
The Telegraph quoted a spokesman for Manchester United as saying, "If land becomes available in the vicinity we are always interested."
No one from Segro commented for the article. However, it is understood that the industrial property development firm is keen to sell its portfolio of Trafford Park properties as a whole, rather than on an individual basis. Such an approach, if adhered to, could block the deal with Manchester United.
