The Great House Hotel & Restaurant in Lavenham, Suffolk has been put up for sale by its owners with a guide price of £1.45 million. The Grade II listed hotel, which dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries, is being brought to the market by specialist business property advisor Christie & Co.
The Great House is an award-winning restaurant with two AA Rosettes specialising in French fine-dining cuisine. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as additional services including bespoke patisserie, catering, hosting for special occasions and picnics. The hotel, meanwhile, comprises five luxury rooms.
The hotel has long operated as a highly renowned hotel and fine dining restaurant in Lavenham and is one of around 300 listed buildings in the historic town. The hotel was acquired by its current owners, Dominique and Julie Tropeano, in 2016.
Under the ownership of the Tropeanos, who are now retiring, there has been a significant investment in refurbishing the property, contributing to a high-class reputation for the hotel and restaurant and a strong level of repeat business.
The property has also obtained planning permission to reconfigure the ground floor accommodation in order to make the layout and service arrangement more efficient. Christie & Co describe the sale as a “fantastic opportunity for an experienced chef or regional operator to acquire the hotel and restaurant and build on its ongoing success.”
The sale is being handled by Tim Gooding, Director of the Hospitality team at Christie & Co, who commented: “The Great House is an iconic building sitting in the heart of well-known Lavenham and this combined with an excellent business will surely generate demand from the market which, last year in particular, defied expectations and turned out to be one of our busiest years on record in the region, reflecting long term confidence in a very robust hospitality sector.”
