An office in Carlisle is rumoured for sale in the first quarter of 2013.
Rufus House in Castle Street has been put up for sale by a chartered surveyors after the current occupier's future became uncertain.
The building is currently home to a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) centre and is one of 17 such centres that was earmarked for closure last year.
Commenting on the sale, John Haley, from the selling agent, told The Times and Star: “The accommodation provides letting opportunities for existing office use from 5,800 sq ft or alternatively, consideration will be given to selling the freehold of the premises with vacant possession. The property may also be suitable for alternative uses, subject to planning.”
The building was constructed in 1963 and has a total of 28,500 sq ft of floor space. However, a buyer could find themselves required to put some additional investment into the property due to some safety concerns with the car park.
The DWP stated that there will be staff working at the office “well into the first quarter of 2013”, noting, however, that a number of staff have been moved to alternative offices.
