A 5,500-square-foot indoor market in Lincolnshire has been put up for sale, with agents calling it an ideal opportunity for entrepreneurs.
The Wonderland Market in the seaside resort of Cleethorpes is on the market for £850,000 freehold. Carl Bradley, of Clark Weightman chartered surveyors, the company marketing the property, said that the North Promenade property has the space and potential for a lucrative transformation into an exciting leisure attraction. Originally a fishing village, Cleethorpes is a town based on the Humber estuary in North East Lincolnshire with a population of around 35,000.
"We are advertising [the market] within the trade as a great opportunity for a buyer to continue to run it as a market," he said. "But for somebody with a bit of entrepreneurial spirit there's an opportunity to look at what else it could be."
He said its proximity to the other seaside attractions could see it make an indoor go-karting track or fairground and amusements centre.
The property has been owned by Town and Country Markets since 2004, and currently hosts a popular market on Sundays and Bank Holidays throughout the year. Ray Gall, of Shropshire-based Town and Country, said an enterprising, more local businessperson would be able to make so much more of the building, which was built in 1911.
