W.H. Scott Group, a 127-year-old UK and Ireland lifting equipment company, has continued its expansion strategy with the acquisition of Bristol-based RHC Lifting.
W.H. Scott Group, operating out of Dublin, Wexford, Belfast and Plymouth, specialises in the design, manufacture, supply, maintenance, inspection and certification of highly-engineered equipment used in the lifting, rigging and industrial markets. The group founded in 1897 works with a range of clients including supplying a purpose-built scientific mooring winch for the British Antarctic Survey’s RRS Sir David Attenborough ship.
RHC Lifting set up by Phil Goodway, Tony Morgan and Andy Cayzer in 2001 has branches in Bristol, Plymouth, Yeovil, Southampton, London and South Wales and employs 70 people. They set up the business because, according to their website, the founders believed ‘lifting solutions were a forgotten department’. Its work has included decommissioning and refurbishing three original Turbine Hall Cranes at Battersea Power Station in London.
W.H.Scott, backed by Renatus Capital Partners, said the acquisition of RHC Lifting was a major step in its UK growth strategy. It marks its fifth acquisition to date and fourth in the past three years. This includes elevator roping company Re-Ropes in 2022, construction materials testing firm MetLab in 2023, and Hutcheon Examination Services this year. Post the RHC deal the group will have around 300 staff.
Patrick Doyle, chief executive of W.H. Scott Group, said: "This acquisition of one of the most respected companies in this space will guarantee the W.H. Scott Group delivers on its plans to be at the forefront of our chosen business areas. RHC Lifting has a strong, proven track record and is managed by passionate people.”
Goodway said he was excited to be part of the W.H.Scott Group. “This acquisition represents a significant step forward in our growth strategy. We have a strong reputation for quality and reliability, and believe that by bringing our two companies together, we will be able to offer even greater value to our customers across the UK and Ireland."
