Stonbury Limited, a specialist water and environment sustainability engineering firm, has expanded with a bolt-on acquisition supported by LDC's East Midlands and East of England team. The company has acquired Panton McLeod, a specialist provider of inspection and cleaning services for public, commercial and industrial water assets.
Panton McLeod is a 50-strong Selkirk-based business founded in 1994. The company initially focused on cleaning potable water storage tanks, helping water providers to remain compliant with regulatory requirements, but has expanded to also specialise in the advanced inspection and cleaning of a range of water assets.
The company offers an array of technologies and services and serves clients across the UK and Ireland. The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Stonbury’s existing presence in the UK’s water and environment sectors.
Stonbury, which was founded in 1983 and secured backing from private equity investor LDC in 2022, works with UK water companies and environment agencies, providing low-carbon services for the maintenance, repair and refurbishment of critical assets, including wastewater treatment and drinking water provision.
Following the acquisition, Stonbury Chief Executive Trevor Hoyle said that the company’s clients “can now look forward to a complete end-to-end solution to their water asset needs across the whole of the UK."
David Bains, partner and head of East Midlands and East of England at LDC, commented: "The addition of Panton McLeod further enhances Stonbury's reputation as a leading critical infrastructure services business. It also bolsters the business's expertise in supporting the water and environment industries to mitigate the impacts of climate change."
Panton McLeod Managing Director Jim Panton added that, from the company’s early discussions with Stonbury, “there was a clear view of the synergies that existed between the two businesses.”
Panton continued: "We have been on a sustainability focused journey for a number of years and Stonbury's current position in the water and environment sectors is where we have been aiming to get to for a while and I am delighted that we can now join the Stonbury Group."
