Sykes Holiday Cottages has continued to tap into surging dealmaking in the UK’s domestic holiday sector with the acquisition of North Wales firm Abersoch Quality Homes. The acquisition adds 100 properties to Sykes’ portfolio of nearly 20,000 properties in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand.
Around 2,400 of those properties are in North Wales and the latest acquisition expands Sykes’ offering in the coastal region around Abersoch in Gwynedd. The acquisition comes after the family-owned firm’s founders, Debra and Tim Elvins, decided to step down to focus on other business.
Post-acquisition, the firm, which was founded in 2005, will be managed by Sykes Holiday Cottages’ flagship North Wales brand Menai Holidays. The deal comes less than a month after Sykes announced the acquisition of Suffolk-based holiday cottage letting firm Best of Suffolk.
Sykes has been one of the major beneficiaries of the rise in domestic holidaying during the Covid-19 pandemic, reporting significant increases in bookings for 2020 and 2021.The company has asserted that the increased popularity of “staycationing” will last beyond the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Discussing the acquisition of Abersoch Quality Homes, Sykes CEO Graham Donoghue said: "Like Sykes, Abersoch Quality Homes has always focused on providing exceptional accommodation and customer service.
"It's an exciting time for all involved and we're looking forward to supporting the long-term success of Abersoch Quality Homes' 100 properties – shining a spotlight on the holidays available in this beautiful part of the country."
