The historic Clifton Hotel in Scarborough has been put up for sale by its owner.
English Rose Hotels, which is also based in the town, has put the hotel onto the market just weeks after another of its commercial properties, Wrea Head in Scalby, went up for sale.
The 70-bedroom Clifton Hotel, which is located in Queen's Parade and boasts stunning views across the North Sea and Scarborough’s castle headland, is on the market for £2,875,000.
It has a rich history, with links to the famous World War One poet Wilfred Owen, who spent time at the hotel in late 1917, when it was called The Clarence Gardens Hotel. His first poem to be published, entitled 'Miners,' was written in a turret bedroom at the hotel.
According to the Scarborough Evening News, the Clifton Hotel is being marketed through property agents Colliers International. A spokesperson for Colliers said, “The Clifton Hotel is a landmark detached leisure hotel and a very well established business.”
English Rose Hotels has other commercial assets, including the Royal Hotel in Scarborough, the Hackness Grange and The Green Man Inn in Malton.
