Hopes have been raised that a sale is to be agreed for the Wrea Head Hotel in Scarborough.
The news was reported this week in the Scarborough Evening News. The hotel was placed in administration in August 2011, along with the Royal Hotel, the Clifton Hotel and the Hackness Grange, following the collapse of the English Rose Hotels chain.
Since then, the business has been run by administrators whilst they looked for a suitable buyer. The newspaper reports that a partnership has come forward as a potential buyer for the hotel. According to the report, the news came to light when the pair also submitted a letter of objection to the council, raising concerns about plans to build a 50kw wind turbine nearby.
The Scarborough Evening News reports that the buyers are London-based and plan to relocate if the deal goes ahead. In the letter they state that they would like to run the business as a hotel and retain it as a “local landmark building”.
Speaking on behalf of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, spokesperson Jill Peacock is quoted as saying, “They are in discussions about the sale of the property. We cannot divulge any names because they are still in the discussion phase.”
