The takeover of Rouse Readimix by Breedon Aggregates in 2011 has given a new lease of life to the ready-mixed concrete business.
Almost a year after Breedon Aggregates bought the firm out of administration in a £10 million deal,
the business is enjoying extra investment and looking forward to a stronger future.
David Rouse, who worked with the firm before the takeover and is continuing now as commercial manager, told the Grimsby Telegraph: “The future is more secure. It is a tough time, and a competitive market, but we are in a better place than we were a year ago, with much better support and a stronger, more secure parent company. We have money to invest and we are moving forward rather than hanging on to the past.”
All of Rouse Readimix's staff and drivers remain with the company but Breedon Aggregates has changed the branding of the firm, replacing the black and white truck mixers – so coloured in honour of Grimsby Town FC – with Breedon's blue and yellow vehicles.
Breedon is the largest UK-only aggregates business and employs more than 800 people. Its extensive network of quarries, asphalt plants and ready-mixed concrete and mortar plants have helped it generate sufficient investment to see it through difficult times when smaller firms have struggled.
