Duncan & Toplis, a private equity-backed accountancy and business advisory firm based in the Midlands, has established its first presence in London with the acquisition of Haines Watts North London.
The strategic acquisition will see the target company rebranded as Duncan & Toplis, with all staff remaining in place. The team will continue to be led by Managing Partner Amilios Costa (pictured above) following the acquisition.
Duncan & Toplis secured private equity investment from Blixt Group in 2023 and the company says it is “on course for the biggest period of growth in its history”. With Blixt’s backing, the firm is pursuing a growth strategy based around strong organic growth, complemented by “a number of highly strategic acquisitions that broaden the service offering to clients and expand the business geographically into new key locations.”
Damon Brain, CEO of Duncan & Toplis, commented: “It was clear from the first meeting that Amilios and his team share our focus on culture and growth for the right reasons. He brings incredible expertise, energy and experience and will be instrumental in supporting growth in the region. I’m delighted to welcome our new team members and help them deliver on their own ambitions, as part of Duncan & Toplis.”
Amilios Costa added: "Joining forces with Duncan & Toplis represents a fantastic opportunity for both our clients and our team. The amazing combination of deep-rooted history and a profound ambition to grow in the right way is a huge cultural synergy. It means we can offer a wider range of services and even greater support to our clients, as well as provide our team with new opportunities to progress their careers at a company with serious growth ambitions.”
“I share Damon’s ambitions and enthusiasm, and I’m really excited to play a part in the next step of the Duncan & Toplis growth story.”
Announcing the acquisition, Duncan & Toplis said that the deal had received full regulatory approval and added that the company was in “active acquisition discussion with other like-minded firms.”
Duncan & Toplis, which was founded in 1925, is one of the largest accounting and business advisers in the Midlands, providing an array of services to more than 12,000 businesses and individuals.
Following the acquisition of Haines Watts North London, Duncan & Toplis now has 12 offices across the Midlands and London: in Boston, Finchley, Grantham, Lincoln, Loughborough, Louth, Melton Mowbray, Newark, Skegness, Sleaford, Spalding and Stamford.
The deal comes just over a month after Evelyn Partners acquired Haines Watts’ offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester.
