Birmingham-based early years provider Busy Bees has expanded its presence in Hampshire with the acquisition of Egg Days Nurseries. The family-owned firm has three nurseries in Andover and Winchester and takes Busy Bees’ presence in the county to four settings.
The nurseries acquired in the deal include Sutton Scotney, Winchester, a three-floor site in a converted Methodist church that can cater for nearly 70 children. Secondly, the group has acquired Picket Twenty, Andover, a purpose-built single-storey nursery which caters for 72 children. Finally, Busy Bees will also take on Magic Tower Montessori Nursery School, Andover, which was acquired by Egg Days Nurseries in 2017 and caters for 40 children.
Busy Bees has grown to become the UK’s largest early years providers, operating 386 nurseries across the UK and Ireland, caring for more than 40,000 children. Globally, the group has a presence in eight countries, caring for more than 75,000 children.
The group has grown largely through acquisitions, taking advantage of a period of strong consolidation activity in the UK’s nursery and early years sector. This wave of M&A has been driven by fragmentation within the sector, strong demand for early years care and growing interest in the market from a range of buyers, including private equity firms and real estate investment trusts.
Commenting on the acquisition, Busy Bees’ Europe CEO Cheryl Creaser said: “We are delighted to welcome Egg Day Nurseries to our growing family. The owners have created three beautiful nurseries that offer wonderful learning environments for children, and we are committed to preserving their vision going forward. We’re looking forward to working with the team to ensure we can continue providing children with the best start in life.”
