The Muller Dairy has completed its purchase of Greencore's Minsterley desserts business.
Greencore purchased Minsterley from Uniq back in 2011 for £113 million hoping to turn its fortunes around. Some progress was made and the sale to Muller, announced back in June 2012, has now gone through for £4.3 million plus stock.
Ronald Kers, chief executive of Muller's operations in the UK and Ireland, remarked upon confirmation of the deal: “This is a great way to start the New Year, and it underlines our ambitions for the future. I would like to thank the team at Minsterley for their hard work during the transition period and welcome them to Muller.”
The manufacture under contract of Cadbury branded desserts has played a significant role in Minsterley's business and Mr Kers said that Muller is planning to “further develop Cadbury's brand presence as part of our portfolio”.
Muller will take on Minsterley's workers and maintain the plant in Market Drayton as part of its future development. The news is likely to provide some relief for workers as earlier owners Uniq recently laid off over 300 jobs in its efforts to scale back operations.
