Sweden-based industrial group MotionTech has announced the strategic acquisitions of two UK companies, LAC Conveyor Systems Ltd and Holloway Control Systems.
The acquisitions are, the business says, steps in MotionTech's ongoing strategy to build an automation powerhouse.
Louise Ringström Grandinson, CEO of MotionTech, said: "The addition of LAC and Holloway to our Group is not just an expansion of our capabilities, but a significant step towards realising our group vision to be a full service partner for customers in the automation market."
LAC Conveyor Systems is a well-respected and established UK manufacturer of modular conveyor systems, automation solutions and bespoke robotic systems for material handling requirements. They are leaders in the warehouse automation field, which is advancing rapidly and has obvious cost-reduction opportunities.
Essentially, warehouse automation refers to the utilisation of technology to perform warehouse processes with minimal human intervention. It encompasses a range of solutions, from robotics and conveyors to software systems for inventory management and data analytics. It also encompasses automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) which streamlines warehouse tasks such as picking, packing, and sorting.
LAC Conveyor Systems recorded net profits before tax of £4.35m on sales of £27.7m in the year to 31 October 2022, up 5 per cent on the previous year.
Holloway Control Systems is known for its expertise in developing advanced control and software systems, further diversifying MotionTech's offering. Holloway, established in 2008, has become a leader in industrial automation, with extensive experience in PLC programming, SCADA systems and a comprehensive WCS abilities.
In its last filed accounts to 31 October 2022, Holloway recorded £3.9m in sales, up 24 per cent on the previous year. Net profits before tax were £12,400.
Acquisitions are the main driver behind the rapid growth of MotionTech. In 2022, it completed the strategic acquisition of AMH Material Handling, an experienced system integrator based in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, known for its custom automated solutions tailored to e-commerce fulfilment centres.
MotionTech was established in 2021, with a clear strategy to become a full solutions and service partner to customers within intralogistics and warehouse automation. Although MotionTech is continuing to build its position across Europe organically, its focus is on acquiring niche leading companies with strong management and owners.
