Thebigword Group (TBW), a language technology company headquartered in Leeds, has acquired British Sign Language (BSL) service provider Clarion. Following the acquisition, the combined entity will reportedly be the biggest BSL company in the UK.
A press release announcing the acquisition said that the deal would enable the TBW group “to further enhance its mission to eradicate the final barrier of global communication.”
Clarion, which has been operating for more than 22 years, provides NRCPD registered sign language interpreters for a wide array of sectors, including health, legal and education settings. TBW, meanwhile, is a language services specialist that has been operating for more than 40 years, providing a broad range of interpreting services to UK public sector and government organisations.
Post-acquisition, TBW has said that there will be no changes to Clarion’s operations or provision of services and that the company will continue to operate as a standalone unit within the broader group, retaining its brand and specialist focus on BSL services. The company will continue to be led by its existing management team, headed up by Managing Director Samantha Turner.
Following the deal, Samantha Turner said that it was a “momentous occasion” for the business. She continued: "Joining forces with thebigword Group opens up a world of opportunities for innovation and growth. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the BSL community, and I am thrilled to lead Clarion into this exciting new chapter."
Joshua Gould, Chief Executive at thebigword Group, added: "The acquisition of Clarion is a key milestone in our mission to break down language barriers around the world. We are excited to welcome the Clarion team and look forward to working together to enhance our BSL services, making them more accessible than ever before."
