Hays Travel has acquired homeworking franchise firm Explorer Travel for an undisclosed fee as it looks to expand its homeworking operation. The move to acquire Explorer Travel comes after Hays Travel accelerated a review of its portfolio due to the COVID-19 pandemic and closed 89 shops.
Explorer Travel’s 70 franchisees will now join the more than 350 staff in Hays Travel’s homeworking division. Hays Travel’s homeworking business sees many of its staff go on to form independent operations under the Hays Travel Independence Group.
Steve Wood, the owner of Explorer Travel, approached Hays regarding a potential acquisition after deciding to leave the travel sector. Wood said that he felt Hays Travel offered the best place for the company’s franchisees to grow their businesses.
Dame Irene Hays, owner of Hays Travel, commented: “We have had a very good first meeting with the franchisees and we’re looking forward to helping them grow their businesses and to recruiting more people into our latest franchise model in due course.”
“It’s a very different approach and I am very excited about it filling a gap between our Premier Telesales Homeworking and Personal Travel Consultants and the Independence Group, opening up new opportunities for our existing colleagues.”
“It’s also allowing many more people to join who enjoy homeworking and are looking for the chance to earn a good living at home and eventually perhaps build their own business.”
