Beltline Capital, a Manchester-based business incorporated in April 2023, has continued its buy-and-build growth strategy with the acquisition of Bury-based packaging manufacturer Expert Packaging Limited in a multimillion-pound deal.
The acquisition was supported by a £2.25 million funding package from Arbuthnot Commercial Asset Based Lending (Arbuthnot Commercial ABL). The facility comprises a confidential invoice discounting line and term loan, provides financing for the transaction and ensures additional post-acquisition working capital, along with fresh equity from a high-net-worth investor.
Expert Packaging operates from locations in the North West, including a newly-refurbished 15,000 sq ft warehouse in Bury. The firm provides a range of services, including the manufacture and wholesale of corrugated cardboard packaging, ancillaries and consumables.
While the deal continues Beltline’s buy-and-build activity in the corrugated cardboard market, following its acquisitions of First Packaging Services and Leighton Packaging last year, it is also described as a step-change in the group’s revenue and profit profile. It is thought that Expert Packaging’s driven management team will help support the next phase of Beltline’s expansion.
Expert Packaging Director Adam Crichton-Prince stated that, as part of a larger group, the company was in a strong position to build on its £8 million turnover and continue its growth trajectory.
He continued: “Our success is founded on exceptional customer service, and this acquisition will allow us to work with other businesses in the group to drive further growth. We are excited about the opportunities this new chapter brings for Expert Packaging and our customers.”
Arbuthnot Commercial ABL Commercial Director Andrew Rutherford said that the acquisition was a “perfect fit” for Beltline’s “visionary approach to creating a diverse group of specialised companies in the packaging sector”.
Rutherford added: “We have always thrilled to support buy-and-build transactions that enable groups to expand their service offerings and extend their geographical reach.”
“Our facilities provide Beltline with the additional headroom to proceed with further acquisitions, and we look forward to fuelling their buy-and-build strategy in the years to come.”
