Specialist lubricant producer Batoyle Freedom Group (BFG) has been purchased by Fuchs, a much larger, German rival.
German company Fuchs, which dates back to 1931, is one of the biggest lubricant makers across the world, and said the deal will advance its presence across all sectors in the UK.
Richard Halhead, Fuchs UK managing director, said: "In particular it enables the glass technology, for which BFG is world renowned, to be developed through the Fuchs global footprint.”
Founded in 1875 BFG is a major player in the UK's lubricants industry, and makes lubricants for use in the glass, industrial, automotive and textile industries. Headquartered in Milnsbridge, Yorkshire, it has operations throughout Britain and exports to more than 50 countries worldwide through various agents and distributors.
BFG is to be absorbed into Fuchs Lubricants (UK), with expected job losses of around 50 for the acquired business. The company managers have started a 90-day consultation with the staff about the future of their jobs.
BFG chairman Don Brett commented on the deal: “We are confident that the sale to Fuchs will ensure the value we have built in the business will be maintained and extended by the specialty approach of the Fuchs Group.”
