French manufacturer Steliau Technology has entered the UK for the first time after buying Basingstoke-based Alpha Micro Components.
Founded in the 1990s, Steliau Technology Group is a value-added distributor and supplier of electronic solutions in the European electronics market, specialising mainly in the following activities: Human-Machine Interfaces, Display, Connectivity (IoT, M2M, Positioning), Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, OEM/ODM, Heat dissipation solutions and Energy conversion.
Founded in 1995, Alpha Micro Components is a value-added distributor of electronic components and wireless solutions in the United-Kingdom and Ireland. It addresses a wide range of markets such as BMS, Asset & Resident Tracker, Medical & Wearables and Smart Cities. It has 27 employees.
Steliau believes the deal brings cross-selling opportunities, as well as Alpha Micro’s expertise in connectivity and geolocation. It represents the latest phase of its European expansion following recent acquisitions in Italy and Spain.
Alpha Micro is set to remain independent in the group.
Christos Papakyriacou, Co-founder of Alpha Micro Components, said: “As an independent value add distributor for 30 years, it was vitally important to us that both our customers, and also our loyal team would benefit from this exciting new opportunity. Joining the Steliau Group is a key milestone on the path to expanding our business with a range of complementary products and services that we will now have access too.”
Pascal Reynoud, CEO of Steliau Group, added: “We are very proud to welcome Alpha Micro to the STELIAU group. This company, expert in its market and with its customers, will benefit from all the support and strength of our group to accelerate its growth in its territory.”
The deal was supported by FRP Advisory’s Financial Advisory team led by director Joanne Price and partner Chris Adlam. They were appointed to provide cross-border financial and tax due diligence on the deal.
Price said the acquisition provided an excellent strategic fit for Steliau giving it a foothold in the UK and Ireland for the first time.
“Alpha Micro Components’ in-house expertise has helped it become a well-established and respected business in the UK and Ireland and this deal will only benefit both parties,” she said.
