Forward Ladies, a business support organisation for professional women, has been sold to one of its members.
The Leeds-based network has more than 13,000 members across the UK. It was formed in 2000 by Etta Cohen but news broke yesterday (13 May) that Forward Ladies had been bought by its regional manager for Bradford, Grizelda Togobo.
The business growth consultant and the founder of AWOVI Consulting purchased the organisation from Ms Cohen for an undisclosed amount. The new owner has worked to support and empower women in business through her consultancy practice, educational workshops, seminars and speaking engagements.
In its 14 years of existence Forward Ladies has hosted thousands of events and taken trade missions all around the world. The organisation offers inspiration and guidance for professional women while also encouraging business owners to do business with one another.
Ms Cohen decided to step back from the organisation after a 42-year career as she wishes to escape the pressures of running a business. She will still be involved in an ambassadorial role within Forward Ladies.
Ms Togobo has stated that she has no plans for major changes but wishes to bring her international experience – that includes working with Deloitte, the NHS and a host of other small and large companies, as well as writing on business issues for a wide range of publications – to offer support for the fellow professional women.
The new owner said: “Forward Ladies will be developed to give working women the support, training and access to peer and mentor networks they need to help them progress in their professional lives and build better businesses.
“Forward Ladies is an inclusive organisation for all women, not just those at the very top of their careers. Most women juggle their professional lives with the needs of their families and everyone has a different definition of success.”
Ms Cohen added: “Griselda has always been a tremendous advocate for Forward Ladies and she has great plans to move the organisation forward. I’m sure the members will join me in supporting her in achieving that, and to ensuring Forward Ladies will go from strength to strength, and become a major force to be reckoned with.”
