Public Safety Equipment International (PSE), a manufacturing business that makes the flashing lights used on fire engines and police cars, could be up for sale in the near future.
The business was acquired by Britax in 1998, at which point the focus was on making seatbelts and car safety features. However, the majority of the company's safety equipment divisions have since been sold.
A source close to the possible business sale has told the Telegraph that Rothschild has been brought in to advise on what is thought to be a disposal worth in the region of £60 million. But other than continuing to use Britax to license its brand name, PSE is not associated with Britax any more.
The company employs around 750 people around the world. The bulk of its work consists of manufacturing and installing lighting systems in emergency vehicles for both government and military groups. Its products include speed measurement equipment, in-car video surveillance systems and interactive roadside displays. It has a turnover of around $175 million (£105 million).
Although PSE operates on a global scale, it is headquartered in Leeds and the company is registered in England and Wales.
