A family-run bakery is to be put on the market after its owners decided they want to spend more time as a family.
The 102-year-old Satterthwaites business has struggled to keep its place in the market amid recent difficult trading conditions and its owner, Roger Wilson, has decided to take a step back and sell the business in order to spend more time with his grandchildren.
The first bakery owned by Satterthwaites was built back in November 1910 on King Street in Southport. There are now a further seven stores in the company with a total of 70 staff on the books.
Mr Wilson told the Champion that he is looking for an enthusiastic young baker to take up control of the company. “The business is for sale because I'm 71 and it needs someone who has a combination of good baking skills, capital and enthusiasm,” he remarked.
“It's something I've been thinking about for quite a long time, about 18 months ago we hit a low point in terms of funding and I had to inject money into the business to keep it going,” Mr Wilson added.
However, despite having made some changes and staff cuts, the business is still floundering. Its owner believes that someone who has “better ideas about marketing” would be able to take on the company and make a success of it.
“The business has a lot going for it and is a wonderful product, we have some wonderful customers, but we have just not reached out to enough people with the drift of people away from the high street,” he clarified.
The successful purchaser will acquire a fast growing, leading independent recruitment agency, providing temporary, contract, an permanent positions and solutions across various sectors nationwide.
It’s a family business, known for its reliability, its good network and competitive pricing, working for well-established builders and civil engineering companies, enjoying an excellent reputation, predominantly in Manchester and the Northwest.
