Gateshead-based game developer Eutechnyx has sold its NASCAR computer game franchise to a US company.
Since 2010, the firm has been publishing NASCAR Team Properties-licensed titles to great success with critics and fans, reaching the top of the games charts in the US. In a move away from the video game business, Eutechnyx has accepted an offer from fledging games publisher DMi Inc.
DMi owners Ed Martin and Tom Dusenberry are video games industry veterans and are well known to Eutechnyx chief executive Darren Jobling.
Jobling said: "We are extremely proud that, back in 2010, Eutechnyx adopted an innovative approach to the NASCAR franchise. We’ve widened the accessibility of NASCAR games to fans worldwide, from console and PC into the emergent world of mobile and tablet gaming.
“We’re confident that in passing the baton to DMi, NASCAR Team Properties has the ideal partner to build on our success and set their platform for continued growth.”
Eutechnyx will now focus its resources on developing the 2.0 version of its online racing franchise Auto Club Revolution (ACR) in preparation for its launch in China later this year.
DMi is an indirectly held subsidiary of HC2 Holdings Inc, which has its headquarters in North Carolina, considered as the home of the NASCAR industry.
