Internationally known and loved Denby Pottery, based in Derbyshire, has been placed on the market after receiving unsolicited expressions of interest from trade buyers.
Hilco Capital is seeking buyers for the Denby Holdings Group, comprising the Denby, Burleigh, Poole and Hartley Greens pottery brands, the Derby Telegraph has reported.
The turnaround expert says it has brought in financial services company Canaccord Genuity to explore a potential sale.
Founded in 1809 by the Bourne family the business, known as Joseph Bourne for over 100 years, has been making high quality pottery ever since, with a focus on attractiveness and practical usage. A series of innovative new products have been released over the two centuries, meeting people’s needs at the time and earning a place in history.
The offers from trade buyers come after a strong performance in 2013, Paul McGowan, the CEO at Hilco Capital says.
“As a result of this interest, we have thought it appropriate to appoint advisors to run a formal sale process,” he told the Derby Telegraph.
“We have been very happy with the progress of the Denby group to date and we recognise that a major international player may be able to further expand the Denby businesses faster than we can achieve.”
Good results for the fourth quarter have lead to total sales of £44 million of the Denby pottery – a ten per cent increase on last year.
