Stoke-on-Trent based environmental consultancy Wardell Armstrong has been bought by global peer SLR.
Wardell Armstrong is an environmental, engineering and mining consultancy with over 185 years of international service and experience. Its work includes helping and advising clients to develop renewable energy projects such as solar plants, wind farms and energy from waste. It also works with major clients such as Network Rail and United Utilities to develop new major infrastructure projects.
SLR, is a global environmental and sustainability consultancy with over 100 offices worldwide. It helps clients with their ESG and sustainability strategies, ESG reporting and disclosure, transition to net-zero and projects across mining, energy, infrastructure and the built environment.
The deal brings together nearly1,800 employees across Europe from both firms.
Caroline Mellor, managing director of Wardell Armstrong UK, said: ““We are thrilled to join forces with SLR. Our combined expertise and shared vision will allow us to better serve our clients by expanding the services, sectors, and geographies we cover, all while remaining focused on delivering sustainable solutions. Together, we will continue to support our clients in tackling the critical environmental issues of today and tomorrow.”
Bradley Andrews chief executive of SLR, said the acquisition was a great strategic fit. “It fully aligns with our growth priorities and enhancing our core business. We are excited to work with Wardell Armstrong to offer an even broader range of services to our clients while expanding our global reach and reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.”
According to its latest accounts filed to Companies House for the year to March 31, 2023, Wardell Armstrong posted a turnover of £44 million with pre-tax profit of £13.4 million up from £8.4 million the previous year.
Both companies have benefited from businesses looking to become more sustainable as a result of regulatory requirements but also in response to increasing worries over the pace of climate change.
Wardell Armstrong was advised on the transaction by KPMG on M&A, Financial and Tax, and by Napthens on legal matters.
