A deal for Bath-based stationery firm The Gifted Stationery Company has been wrapped up by an over 100 year old specialist Christmas manufacturer.
The Gifted Stationery Company designs and makes a wide range of products such as gift stationery, calendars and diaries, bags and trinket boxes. It produces over 500 products each year to UK retailers and charities as well as export customers around the world.
It also launched a children’s lifestyle range - Hey Hugo - earlier this year including backpacks, pencil cases, meal boxes and water bottles.
It has been bought for an undisclosed sum by the Swan Mill Group which was established in 1892 and is now a ‘large and diversified business based around the core principles of disposables, ink on paper and party with a particular specialisms in all things Christmas’.
It designs and makes a range of products such as napkins and table coverings plus Christmas crackers and party goods, tinsel and gift wrap.
The company, which has offices in Swanley and Hong Kong, also owns Ling Design, a greeting card company based in Bath, as well as Penny Kennedy, a luxury gift packaging brand, which was bought by the business in 2004.
Gifted Stationery’s Nigel Parr, who founded the group in 2007 and has built it into a £5 million turnover business, will continue to run it on a day to day basis from Bath.
“The Gifted brand is well-known for the products they run each year which is absolutely new to us," said David Byk, chief executive of Swan Mill Group. "We are excited about all the opportunities we can also develop together through our networks with Hey Hugo. We see this, and their expertise to supply these categories bespoke for our customers, as a real boost to our total offer."
The deal marks Swan’s second acquisition in a five-year period, having added the Great British Card Company (GBCC) to its portfolio in 2019. Byk added: "Whilst GBCC now has a strong stationery offer, Gifted has a significant point of difference and will thus be incremental to the group."
